Learn when to remove local prefixes, how country codes fit into the number, and why E.164-style formatting reduces failed lookups.

International format basics

Start with the country calling code and the national significant number. Remove spaces, punctuation and any local trunk prefix that is not part of the international number. A leading + is optional for API Factory lookups.

Common mistakes

Keeping a domestic leading zero after adding the country code.
Leaving spaces, brackets or hyphens in machine-to-machine requests.
Guessing a country from the phone number instead of collecting the country explicitly.
